Peak Rewards Pilot for Smart Thermostats

Earn rewards for helping keep Edmonton’s power reliable. Eligible EPCOR customers with smart thermostats get paid while staying comfortable and in control.

A homeowner adjusts a wall-mounted thermostat inside a modern home, reflecting everyday home climate control and energy management.

Help test a new way of managing electricity demand

The Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance (AEEA) is partnering with EPCOR, CLEAResult, and leading smart thermostat brands to offer the Peak Rewards Pilot for Smart Thermostats to eligible EPCOR customers in select Edmonton neighborhoods.

This pilot explores how small, temporary adjustments to cooling during peak demand periods can help support a more resilient electricity grid. Your participation helps EPCOR evaluate innovative demand‑side solutions as part of our broader grid‑modernization efforts.

How the pilot works

If you have a compatible smart thermostat and live in an eligible area, you can enroll to participate. During periods of high electricity demand, your thermostat may be adjusted by up to 3°C for a maximum of four hours.

You’ll always stay in control, you can opt out of any event at any time through your thermostat or app.

Rewards for participating

Customers who enroll and participate can earn:

  • $50 prepaid Mastercard for enrolling (one per household)
  • $25 per season for participating in demand response events

Rewards are provided by CLEAResult, an AEEA program delivery partner.

Who is eligible?

To participate, you must:

  • Be an EPCOR electricity customer
  • Live in an eligible postal code (T6R, T6W or T5E)
  • Have central air conditioning
  • Own a compatible smart thermostat (such as ecobee, Honeywell Home, or Google Nest)

Why EPCOR is participating

This pilot supports EPCOR’s work to strengthen and modernize Edmonton’s electricity grid by advancing smart, flexible solutions that enhance reliability and resilience. By participating, you’re helping EPCOR explore how customers can support a more adaptable grid and contribute to more reliable electricity. Your involvement provides real‑world insights that inform how we plan, innovate, and collaborate to keep power safe, reliable, and ready for Edmonton’s growth.
