Energizing Edmonton’s EV charging future with Encor

Encor by EPCOR is continuing to lead the charge in building a cleaner, smarter energy future for our city. After partnering with the City of Edmonton and installing 26 electric vehicle chargers across nine Edmonton locations through the 2022 Energizing Edmonton initiative, Encor is taking the next step in advancing accessible, reliable, and grid‑smart EV infrastructure.

Edmonton’s first DERMS integrated ultra-fast charging station (coming in late summer 2026)

Construction begins this spring on a new state‑of‑the‑art EV charging station at the Meadows Recreation Centre. The site will feature:

14 ultra‑fast charging stalls delivering up to 400 kW
Both NACS and CCS connectors to support a wide range of EV models
Accessible charging stalls thoughtfully designed for ease of use
Pull‑through trailer stalls for drivers towing equipment or recreational trailers

Canada’s first utility led DERMS-integrated charging site

What sets this project apart is the integration of a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), a first for Encor, EPCOR, and the region.

This technology allows the charging station to intelligently adjust site electricity demand in real time, helping balance charging needs with grid capacity during peak times and enhancing overall grid reliability.

By pairing high‑powered charging with smart grid management, Encor and EPCOR are shaping the future of sustainable transportation and demonstrating leadership in innovation across Alberta’s electricity landscape.

EV on the go with Encor by EPCOR's charging stations

Encor has both level 2 and level 3 fast charging stations from FLO. Effective July 2, 2024, the cost to use the chargers is $2/hour for Level 2 chargers and $18/hour for Level 3 chargers. Find and access all of our charging locations around Edmonton.

How to use the FLO charging station

Using Encor's FLO Charging Stations is easy. Follow these steps to power up and head on out.

Activate your FLO membership

Simply download the FLO mobile app or register for an account at flo.com to start connecting with thousands of EV chargers across Canada.

Charge your vehicle

Plug in
- Park your EV at the charging station.
- Open the station door, pull out the connector and plug it into your vehicle.
Activate
- Activate the station. Place your FLO card on the reader or select the station in the FLO mobile app.
- Charging will start immediately.
Unplug
- Once the charge is complete, unplug the connector and place it back neatly.
- Close the door.
- That's it. A summary of your charging session will arrive in your email inbox.
