You will see this listed on your power bill as the Distribution Charge. The Distribution Charge is the cost for your Wires Owner (EPCOR) to own and operate the distribution system used to deliver electricity to consumers. The charge is comprised of a fixed fee and variable component based on your energy usage this billing period.
You will see this listed on your power bill as the Transmission Charge. The Transmission Charge is the cost your Wires Owner (EPCOR) pays the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) for electricity to be delivered from the Transmission system to the Distribution system, and is based on your energy usage this billing period.
You may see Riders listed on your bill in the Delivery Charges. A rider may be a charge or a refund which adjusts your Distributor's charges. Riders exist for a number of reasons and are usually required to adjust your distributor's charges since they were last approved by the AUC. You may have more than one rider on your bill at a time.
The Local Access Fee is a fee billed by EPCOR on behalf of your municipality, e.g. to allow access to municipal lands.
Visit our page on Understanding Your Utility Bill to learn more about the charges on your bill.
