Rate of Last Resort for electricity

Learn about the Rate of Last Resort (RoLR) and fees for residential power service in Alberta communities.

Residential Rate of Last Resort

In Alberta, you have choice. You can choose between a competitive electricity plan or the Rate of Last Resort (RoLR), the default electricity rate in Alberta. If you don't sign up for a plan, or can't, you will be on the Rate of Last Resort.

  • It is a fixed rate for a two year period from January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2026.
  • There is no contract and you can switch to a competitive plan at anytime.

If you are not on a plan with a retailer, you are on the Rate of Last Resort for electricity.
