Lighting

LED lighting is energy efficient. It uses less electricity and generates less heat than traditional fluorescent lamps. LED lights also operate more efficiently in colder temperatures, such as in refrigeration and freezers.

Motors

Evaporator fans on your walk-in cooler or freezer run 24 hours a day 7 days a week. By retrofitting your traditional motor to an Electronically Commutated Motor it will generate less heat, which allows for the compressor and condenser to stay off for longer periods of time, which in turn uses less electricity.

Anit-sweat controls

By installing anti-sweat controls, a sensor monitors the humidity levels in the refrigeration equipment and only turns on the heater when necessary, which saves electricity and prevents condensation/frost build-up on refrigeration glass doors.

Insulation

Installing insulating strip curtains on walk-in refrigerators and freezer doors helps prevent cold air from escaping and warm air from entering.

Maintenance

Not only does regular maintenance on your refrigeration equipment extend its life, but it can save energy too. The majority of commercial refrigeration equipment expels heat through air cooled condenser coils. These coils can become clogged with dust and debris and will cause your equipment to run less efficiently. Manufacturerers recommend a technician be called on a regular basis to clean the coils.

Turn it off

If you turn off machinery, computers, printers, appliances and photocopiers when your business is closed, or use a low-energy mode during periods of non-use, you can reduce the amount of energy your business equipment consumes.

Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and LED bulbs use significantly less electricity than incandescent bulbs to provide the same light and they can last up to 10,000 hours. Changing all your light bulbs and using sensors can significantly reduce your energy consumption.

Keep it balanced

Turning the heat and air conditioning off when your business is closed, or certain spaces aren't being used can save a lot of energy. Programmable thermostats let you set the temperature to adjust at certain points in the day and minimize your consumption.
