When arborists must contact EPCOR

You must contact us before you begin work when:

  1. Work is within 3 metres of overhead power lines. Only utility authorized arborists may enter this area.
  2. You cannot maintain safe clearance during climbing or rigging.
  3. You are unsure of the voltage or whether a line is live. Always assume it is energized.
  4. A tree has grown into or is touching power lines.

Clearance zones arborists should know

EPCOR operates using standardized vegetation management clearances:

No unauthorized work is allowed. Contact EPCOR before entering this area.

These zones help plan future tree growth:

  • Low zone: Trees under lines must mature under 4.5 metres (15 ft).
  • Medium & high zones: Extend outward up to 7.6 metres (25 ft) from conductors.

These zones guide long term planning. They do not replace the 3 metre rule.

  • Roots can damage cables and equipment.
  • Maintain 1 metre clearance from undergroun cables or structures.
  • Always request a locate through Ontario One Call before digging.
