EPCOR manages water supplies across Arizona using multiple water sources, water storage, conservation programs and ongoing improvements to our water systems. We prepare for changing conditions before shortages occur.
EPCOR's water systems do not rely on a single source of water.
Depending on the community, our supplies may include Colorado River water, groundwater, reclaimed water, stored water reserves and local surface water sources.
Many of our water supplies are supported by long-term water rights and planning efforts that extend decades into the future. Arizona also requires many new developments to demonstrate 100 years of water availability before they can move forward.
Because each system is different, the mix of water sources can vary from one community to another. Some communities rely more heavily on groundwater, while others have access to Colorado River supplies, reclaimed water or local surface water sources.
Maintaining a diverse water portfolio helps support reliable service over time.
The Colorado River is one of several sources that help support water supplies across Arizona, and it continues to face long-term drought and water supply challenges across the Southwest.
Because EPCOR communities use different water sources, Colorado River shortages would not affect every community we serve in the same way. Some communities rely more heavily on groundwater, while others have access to Colorado River supplies, reclaimed water or local surface water sources.
That diversity gives EPCOR the flexibility to respond to changing conditions and help support reliable service across our Arizona communities. If Colorado River supplies are reduced, stored water and other backup supplies provide an additional layer of reliability.
EPCOR also prepares for changing water conditions through conservation programs, reclaimed water, long-term water storage, investments in wells and partnerships that help strengthen future supplies.
Most importantly, based on current information, we do not anticipate changes to customer water service as a result of expected Colorado River shortage conditions.
We have resources available to help with water conservation. From free customer conservation kits and available specialists to water education programs and demonstration gardens, learn how you can reduce water consumption.
