What you can do to save water

If you want to reduce your water consumption or just make your home more efficient:

  • Check your irrigation system. In Arizona, it's estimated that 70% of a family's water consumption happens outdoors. Check your lawn or garden's irrigation system to make sure it’s working properly and not watering where it isn’t needed. Look for leaks and avoid over-watering.
  • Get drought-conscious. Consider planting drought-tolerant plants that don't require as much water to thrive, and adjust your irrigation timer as the seasons change.
  • Fix those leaks. A leaky toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water every month. Check your toilet for leaks regularly by putting a few drops of food coloring into the tank. If the color appears in the bowl after 15-20 minutes, you have a leak.
  • Install new fixtures. Low-flow toilets, showerheads and faucets consume significantly less water and are one of the fastest ways to reduce your home's consumption. Our free conservation kits come with a low-flow showerhead to help you get started. And energy-efficient dishwashers can also help reduce your electric bill.
