Dr. Verna Yiu

Dr. Verna Yiu sits on EPCOR’s board of directors and is the Provost and Vice-President, Academic at the University of Alberta, and a professor of pediatrics in the university's Division of Pediatric Nephrology.

Dr. Yiu holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alberta, where she completed her pediatric residency. She also completed a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Harvard University.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Yiu served as the Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer (2012-2016) and then as the President and CEO (2016-2022) of Alberta Health Services, where she led a workforce of more than 110,000.

She has served on boards and committees of several influential health organizations, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and remains active as the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and as a board member of Health Workforce Canada (HWC).

Dr. Yiu continues to practice as a pediatric nephrologist at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta and has received numerous awards for her service, teaching and clinical care.
