Water rate review and what it means for you

Water is part of everyday life, and it takes a lot to get it from the source to your home or business. Whether you're starting the morning with a cup of coffee or cooking dinner for your family, we're focused on making sure your water is there for you.

Safe, reliable and affordable drinking water is a universal need – protecting customers, careful stewardship of the water you rely on, and thoughtfully balancing differences where they arise, are at the heart of this application.

Water is even more precious in the desert. Our approach recognizes this, introducing a conversation that we all need to have about water, affordability and equity. We've balanced the different needs and desires of our customers with our most critical responsibility – ensuring that safe, clean, reliable and affordable drinking water will be there when you need it.

We're required to file this rate review application, according to a March 2019 decision from the ACC. We filed the case, as required, June 16, 2020, giving the ACC the information it needs to determine current rates, based on fresh financial data from 2019, and to consider various scenarios to unify districts.

The rate review process takes about a year – the ACC is expected to make a decision by late summer 2021. You can download a summary of the application below.

How rates are set

Current rates are outdated and don't adequately reflect how much operating costs have changed – like purchasing power to deliver the water, or what has been needed to maintain, fix and replace the system.

The ACC makes the decision on what rates should be after a long and careful review of the information and costs in a rate case. Find out
