Distributed energy resources (DER) refers to smaller/mid-size/larger generation units that are located on the consumer’s side of the meter.
Examples include:
Roof top solar photovoltaic units
Wind generating units
Battery storage
Batteries in electric vehicles used to export power back to the grid
In Collingwood, Stayner, Creemore and Thornbury service areas, DERs can be connected to the local grid and help to reduce reliance on the provincial electricity system. If you would like to apply, here is what you’ll need to do:
Complete the Preliminary Consultation Information Request and return to dxgeneration.eedo@epcor.com. The information collected in this form initiates the process, after which EPCOR provides a response via a Preliminary Consultation Report.
If at this point you would like to continue with your application, you must complete the Connections Impact Assessment application. The cost of this application depends on the proposed kilowatt (kW) rating of the generating facility (fee structure is available here).
Following the completion, review and approval of the application, EPCOR will issue a Connection Agreement (as outlined by the Ontario Energy Board) and provide the technical requirements for connection to the local grid system. At this time, EPCOR will also provide a cost estimate to facilitate the connection and along with any additional steps for completing the process.
