Summer's here and it's getting
HOT so finding ways to stay cool and 'beat the heat' is important. The longer days of summer means more hours of heat from the sun which can really lower the comfort level in your home. Luckily, there are some simple things you can do to help keep you cool in your home and leave you feeling much more comfortable inside!
Placing frozen water bottles in front of your fan
Put a few frozen water bottles or a container of ice in front of a fan to quickly cool your room.
Wear loose fitting clothing in lighter colors
Keep clothes light and loose to beat the heat. Dark colored clothing will absorb the sun's rays making you feel hot, while tight clothing won't allow air to circulate to help cool you.
Keep your blinds closed
When the sun is out, keep the blinds closed to prevent your home from becoming a mini greenhouse.
Replace Incandescent Lights with LEDs
Incandescent bulbs emit a lot of heat and use up to 90 percent of their energy in doing so.
Hang a wet sheet over your window
Hang a wet sheet or blanket over your window to cool the air that drifts in. This can also serve as a DIY air conditioner.
Chill your bedsheets and pillowcases
Fold your cotton sheets and pillowcases, pop them in a freezer bag, and place them in the freezer. Just before you get into bed, take them out and settle down for a comfortable sleep.
Open your windows at night
Temperatures drop overnight. Make the most of these refreshing hours by opening the windows before you go to bed.
