How to Make a Solar-Powered Jack-O-Lantern

​Looking for a little Halloween fun? Carving pumpkins is a spooky staple and now you can take your jack-o-lantern display to the next level with solar power

Save yourself from having to relight or switch on candles to get that ghoulish glow with this easy DIY project.

What you'll need 

• Small to medium-sized pumpkin
• Pumpkin carving kit with stencil
• Large spoon
• Pencil or pen
• Solar light (stake with a circular solar panel top)

How to do it

1. Disassemble the solar light so that you're left with only the solar panel and light.
2. Place the solar panel on top of the pumpkin and using a pen or pencil, trace the circle onto the pumpkin's surface.
3. Using the carving knife or blade, carefully cut out the circle so that you have a hole in the top of the pumpkin.
4. Scoop out and discard the insides of the pumpkin using a large spoon.
5. Place the stencil on the front of your pumpkin and use a pen or pencil to trace the design.
6. Using the carving knife or blade, carefully cut out pieces of the pumpkin to reveal the design you traced with the stencil.
7. Fit the solar panel and light into the whole you cut into the top of the pumpkin.
8. Set your jack-o-lantern outside in the sun to charge and wait for the sun to go down!
