Brrr…. Alberta winter is in full effect and Encor is here with some simple tips to help make your home more comfortable during these cold months.
Adjust your thermostat at night and when you're away
Remember to turn down your thermostat a few degrees before you go to sleep and when you leave your home. Switching to flannel sheets and a warmer comforter on your bed will help ensure you maintain a comfortable night's sleep.
Only heat the rooms you use
If you have rooms that you rarely use, such as guest rooms or storage areas, close off the vents in those rooms to direct the flow of warm air to the rooms you use most in your home.
Keep your furnace unblocked and clean
Keeping your furnace and vents properly maintained and cleaned will help heat your home faster. Make sure you check your furnace filter regularly and replace it when it gets dirty.
Take advantage of the sunlight during the day
Open curtains on your south-facing windows during the day to allow sunlight to naturally heat your home, and then close them at night to help reduce the chill from cold windows.
Area rugs
One of the easiest ways to keep the toes warm is by adding an area rug to help insulate your floor.
Close your doors
Keep internal doors closed to hold the heat in and prevent cold air from circulating into rooms that are unoccupied.
