Electricity meter replacement in Collingwood

PublishedMarch 18, 2026

EPCOR is upgrading electricity meters in our service area across Collingwood, Creemore, Stayner and Thornbury to keep your power safe, reliable and ready for the future.

Electricity meters have a standard 15‑year lifespan, and many in your neighbourhood are reaching end‑of‑life. These quick upgrades help ensure accurate billing and dependable service for years to come.

Why meters are being replaced

Electricity meters naturally wear out over time. After about 15 years, they must be replaced to maintain safety, accuracy and system reliability.

From 2026 through 2028, EPCOR will be replacing end‑of‑life meters across our service area.

Upgrades are:

  • Proactive — preventing future issues and maintaining long‑term reliability
  • Efficient — replacements normally take 15 minutes or less
  • Safe — completed by trained EPCOR technicians on mild weather days

What to expect if your meter is due

Most meters are located outdoors, which means we don’t need an appointment to complete the work. You can expect:

  • A technician will knock on your door before starting the work
  • Your power will experience a brief interruption
  • A door hanger will be left behind once the upgrade is complete
  • If your meter is indoors or in a hard‑to‑access location, EPCOR may contact you to schedule an appointment

There is no cost for the replacement, and customers do not need to prepare or take any action in advance.

How to identify EPCOR crews

Your safety and comfort matter to us. EPCOR crews will always:

  • Carry official EPCOR identification
  • Arrive in branded vehicles
  • Wear EPCOR uniforms
  • Complete the work respectfully and with minimal disruption

Keeping your community informed

We’re committed to clear communication. Leading up to and during replacement work, EPCOR will:

  • Send direct mail notifications to homes with meters due for replacement during the calendar year
  • Make pre-scheduled appointments with customers whose meters are inside or otherwise inaccessible.
  • Coordinate with municipal officials to ensure alignment and awareness
