K-Days taps into great tasting water with newest attraction

Fairgoers are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles to stay hydrated.
PublishedJuly 20, 2022

As K-Days prepares to welcome back hundreds of thousands of fans, one of the hottest new features at the popular festival will help spectators stay cool and refreshed.

New hydration stations will be available along several popular routes on the fair grounds, providing free, high-quality drinking water for families and individuals. These touchless water bottle filling kiosks will also help families and individuals reduce their environmental footprint by cutting down on the purchase of single-use plastic water bottles.

“Earlier this summer, EPCOR launched the Glass of the Sask celebration as a way to recognize the vital role we can all play in supporting a sustainable water supply by protecting the North Saskatchewan River. These new hydration stations are another way to enjoy award-winning tap water and learn more about our treasured river and its surrounding watershed,” said Steph Neufeld, Watershed Manager, EPCOR.

“Explore Edmonton is committed to creating an environmentally and socially sustainable destination, and this partnership between K-Days and EPCOR is an exciting addition to our ongoing efforts at creating sustainable events. We also strive to create a broad community event; this reduces costs to families who no longer must purchase water while on K-Days grounds,” said Traci Bednard, CEO, Explore Edmonton.

Three touchless hydration stations have been installed at high-traffic locations throughout the exhibition grounds. Each kiosk also includes a QR code where fairgoers can access more information about the North Saskatchewan River, how to support the sustainability of our source water supply, as well as an overview of the water treatment process.

Quick facts

  • Edmonton’s water supply comes from the North Saskatchewan River, which flows from the Canadian Rocky Mountains and travels more than 400 km before reaching our city.
  • This water is treated for up to 12 hours at one of Edmonton’s two water treatment plants before being delivered to more than one million taps in Edmonton and surrounding communities.
  • EPCOR’s water treatment teams test and adjust for more than 300 parameters before the water is delivered through a network of 4,200 km of underground pipes and arrives at your taps.
