Natural gas barbecue safety tips

Using your natural gas barbecue is a great way to keep your home cool and enjoy meals outdoors with family and friends. Follow these tips to make sure your barbecue experience is safe and stress-free.

Before you barbecue

  • Clean your barbecue and inspect each burner for blockages and debris.
  • Ensure the quick disconnect valve is securely connected.
  • Inspect all your lines and connections. Replace any that are cracked or damaged.
  • Review the manufacturer's instructions for proper use and maintenance.

Using your barbecue

  • Keep your barbecue in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep the barbecue lid open until the grill is lit.
  • If it doesn't light, turn off your natural gas and wait 5 to 10 minutes before trying again.
  • Never leave a lit grill unattended.
  • Keep your barbecue away from flammable materials and heat sources.

After you barbecue

  • Turn off all burner controls.
  • Shut off the gas valve completely.
  • Let any remaining gas burn off before storing your barbecue.
  • Once cool, cover the barbecue to protect it from rain and debris.

Cleaning tip

For a simple and eco-friendly clean, rub a halved onion on the hot grill grates. It helps remove grime without harsh chemicals or scrubbing.

With these safety tips, you can barbecue confidently and enjoy delicious meals all summer long.
