5 helpful uses for smart lightbulbs

Smart lightbulbs are an inexpensive way to bring smart technology into your home in creative and practical ways. Regardless of the type of smart lighting you choose, here are five ways that they can brighten the darker days of winter.

Simulate sunrise and sunset

Did you know that waking up with the sun can help regulate your body and even set you up for a more productive day? It's true—but, in Alberta that’s often not an option during the darker winter months. Use smart bulbs as a wake-up light to help you wake up more naturally by gradually increasing the brightness to simulate a sunrise. Your smart bulbs can also help you wind down after a long day by slowly dimming in the evening before bed.

Security lighting while you’re away

Escaping the cold for warmer weather this winter? When you go away, set your smart lights to turn on and off at random intervals to give the impression that someone is home.

Smart lights can be used both indoors and outdoors to make your home look lived in helping keep unwanted visitors away.

Change your lights hands-free

Want to change your lighting without having to flip a switch or pull out your phone? Link your smart bulbs to Alexa or Google Assistant for hands-free control. This allows you to change lighting settings with simple voice commands.

Nighttime navigation

Have trouble falling asleep with any lights on? Set a low, soft light to turn on automatically at night. This avoids having to turn on a bright light, yet gives you just enough light to move around your home safely.

Get focused

Have a big exam or important deadline at work? Use cooler, brighter light settings to help improve concentration during work or study sessions.

These are just a few of the helpful uses for smart lightbulbs. They are relatively inexpensive and as easy as screwing in the bulbs to your light fixture, downloading the corresponding app on your phone, and connecting to your home Wi-Fi network.
