EPCOR operates and maintains Strathmore’s wastewater and water systems, and built a new wastewater treatment facility in 2010.
Since 2010, the City of Calgary has supplied Strathmore’s drinking water through the East Calgary Regional Water Line (ECRWL). The water is rechlorinated at the Wildflower reservoir and booster station before EPCOR delivers it to homes and businesses. Some of it makes additional stops at Strathmore’s two other reservoir and booster stations: Brentwood and Wildflower.
Strathmore’s wastewater is treated at a state-of-the-art tertiary level plant built by EPCOR for the community in 2010. The plant uses biological nutrient removal. A portion of the treated wastewater is used to irrigate farmland and biosolids extracted from the wastewater are turned into compost at a regional composting facility. Treated effluent from the plant re-enters the Bow River.
EPCOR operates and maintains Strathmore’s water and wastewater systems under an Operations & Maintenance model with a 20-year term.
