​In 2017, EPCOR completed a four-year expansion and upgrade project to Regina's wastewater treatment plant. The project between EPCOR, the City of Regina and the federal government was required to meet stringent environmental regulations and to accommodate future growth.

EPCOR now operates the facility and provides an essential service to the Regina community by thoroughly treating more than 25 billion litres of wastewater each year before safely returning it back to Wascana Creek.

About the System Infrastructure

Wastewater treatment plant

  • Capacity: 156 mL/day
  • Level IV system
  • Treatment process: Biological nutrient removal (BNR)
  • Biosolids are dried and used to remediate existing lagoons
  • Technologies used: UV light disinfection​

We work in cooperation with local, provincial and federal environmental agencies to ensure all regulatory and environmental requirements are met or exceeded.

  • 2016: United Way "Rising Star Award" for the plant's significant fundraising efforts
  • 2016: ISO/IEC 17025:2005 registered from the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA)
  • 2014: Canadian Council Public-Private Partnerships "C.W. Chuck Wills Award" for Innovation & Excellence in the municipal sector
