When changes in weather cause changes in our river quality, EPCOR Water Treatment Specialists like Abhishek are on their toes, adjusting treatment, so safe drinking water continues to flow to our homes.

Dramatic storms are common in a hot Edmonton summer. But aside from the thunder, lightning, sheets of rain and sometimes hail, these storms have a bigger impact than meets the eye. Just ask the experts like Abhishek who monitor our tap water, 24/7.

"The water treatment plants in Edmonton make sure the water leaving the plant remains unchanged, even during challenging times." - Abhishek, EPCOR Water Operations

"When the river level is rising fast during a storm, the water quality changes significantly," says Abhishek. Despite this, he and his team of water professionals draw on a well of experience and data to ensure that our water quality is consistent no matter what the season or circumstance.

With hot temperatures in the summer, the water that journeys from melting snow pack in the mountains and torrential rain during storms, cause the North Saskatchewan to rise and stir sediment. The dirt and debris washed into the river with every newer storm makes the water more challenging to treat, keeping Abhishek and his team on their toes.

So how do they keep the water so clean and clear? At our water treatment plants, water goes through a series of filtrations, chemical treatments, inspections and other tests to ensure what comes out of the tap is colorless, odourless and great-tasting. This process calls for round-the-clock monitoring, especially during and after a big storm.

As the summer season approaches, our water treatment facilities are gearing up to provide Edmontonians with the best water quality possible, regardless of what Mother Nature unleashes. And with Abhishek and his team at the helm, you won't notice a difference in your tap water even if it's pouring outside.

"The water treatment plants in Edmonton make sure the water leaving the plant remains unchanged, even during challenging times," Abhishek says.

We'll drink to that.
