Boil Water Order fully lifted for all areas ​in Canmore​

​​The boil water order issued by Alberta Health Services on July 29 has been lifted for the remaining areas of Canmore. Effective immediately, residents and businesses​ no longer need to boil their water before consumption

  • R​esidents and businesses in the final areas of Canmore who were under the boil water order until today, can follow these steps on what to do now that the boil water is lifted​.
  • Businesses, schools and health-care facilities can refer to the business tip sheets for procedures to take after a boil water order has been lifted.​

“We want to thank the com​​​​munity for their support and patience as we worked through flushing and water quality testing to confirm the safety of the water over the past week”, said Steve Craik, Director Water Quality and Environment at EPCOR. “EPCOR and the Town of Canmore appreciate the community response and cooperation and would like to confirm everyone in the town can resume regular water use.”​​​​

What to do when the water is restore​d

Once the boil water order has been lifted for your area, please do the following:

  • Flush all water-using fixtures for 5 minutes.
  • Run all cold water faucets and drinking fountains for 5 minutes or until the water is clear before using the water.
  • Drain and flush ice-making systems in your refrigerator.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle. 
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45 degrees C (normal setting is 60 degrees C).​
  • Drain all cisterns and flush with clean water.
  • Pour a bucket of water into your toilet tank to flush any remaining turbidity.​
  • Follow Alberta Health’s guidelines to flush your water heater​.
  • Backwash pool filters and change media or water.
