The Pecan expansion project is designed to bring the plant up to safety standards that were not met under the previous ownership and increase treatment capacity to meet current and future needs. In addition to providing more reliability, certainty and safety for our customers, the updated facility will support economic growth in the fast-developing San Tan Valley. We're:  

• Adding 1 million gallons a day (MGD) of raw sewage treatment capacity to the Pecan facility.
• Rebuilding the influent pump station and head works where all the wastewater flows come into the facility.
• Upgrading the disinfection process, including the addition of a chlorine contact chamber to ensure effluent leaving the facility is treated to the right environmental standards for re-use and re-charge.

There's another project in the works at Pecan, too – construction of a pipeline connecting the facility to the nearby New Magma Irrigation and Drainage District (NMIDD). EPCOR's arrangement with NMIDD will put fully treated effluent from the facility to beneficial use and enable farmers in the district to meet long-term water supply needs. It will also reduce the need for Central Arizona Groundwater Replenishment District (CAGRD) water that offsets pumping in the area, which in turn will reduce costs for customers.
