April is Water Awareness Month in both Arizona and New Mexico – 30 days dedicated to increasing awareness about water supplies, water conservation and water as an essential and precious resource. To kick off the month, EPCOR partnered with the nonprofit organization Leadership West to host the “What’s on Tap!” water summit event in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area’s West Valley.

The morning event started with a comprehensive overview of Arizona’s water landscape from Sarah Porter, Director of the Kyl Center for Water Policy at Arizona State University’s Morrison Institute. A panel discussion with Eric Orsborn, City of Buckeye Mayor, Spenser Kamp, Vice President at the Home Builders Association and Arizona Department of Water Resources Director Tom Buschatzke went deeper, bringing the focus to water in the West Valley.

The panel discussed Arizona’s past and present water situation and the critical steps the West Valley must take for a sustainable water future, expanding current and future leaders’ understanding of Arizona’s complex water landscape to ensure that decisions made today are smart and sustainable.
