Turkey Bowl Leads to Happy Families for Thanksgiving

The holidays are just around the corner and the Central Texas team kicked off the festive events when they held their annual Turkey Bowl. At the Vista Ridge field office, nearly 20 employees competed by hurling a frozen turkey down a makeshift bowling alley in hopes to earn the coveted title: “Turkey Bowl Champion."

A requirement to participate in the annual event is to bring your own turkey. This year, the nearly two dozen employees who participated along with financial contributions from seven others combined for a total of 55 turkeys, more than double last year's amount.

Most of the turkeys were graciously donated to the Shepherd's Heart Food Pantry in Taylor, Texas and a handful of others to a local church. Shepherd's Heart provides food to upwards of 350 families a week.  According to their board chairman, Richard Hume, donations have been harder than usual to come buy as local retailers have limited bulk buying of turkeys due to supply shortages.

The combined individual donations of turkeys this year means that EPCOR helped ensure the staple meal for Thanksgiving for approximately 12 percent of the Shepherd's Heart weekly average clients!
