Arizona Water Rate Case Delivers Advantages for Water Districts

On January 27, 2022, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) approved EPCOR's 2020 water rate application, finalizing a long process to arrive at a new rates framework to ensure a strong, reliable water future for our Arizona customers.

The ACC considered a handful of rate scenarios and, in the end, chose a plan that brings together six districts – Agua Fria, Anthem, Chaparral, Havasu, Tubac and Willow Valley – into one rate structure while leaving three others – Sun City, Sun City West and Paradise Valley – as stand-alones with separate structures.

Combining some districts under one umbrella benefits those districts because it leads to better efficiencies in operations, customer care, communications and more.

The new rates for the six combined districts will be phased in over three years, with the first adjustments going into effect February 1. The new structure for Sun City, Sun City West and Paradise Valley will go into effect in one adjustment, effective February 1. The ACC decision also allows EPCOR to continue our assistance programs for low-income customers, deployed military members and disabled veterans.

EPCOR President Joe Gysel said, “Safe, reliable and affordable drinking water is a universal need. Our first responsibility is ensuring that there is plenty of water when our customers need it. We're pleased that the ACC has chosen a scenario that allows for gradual changes that will help our customers, and also supports our ongoing efforts to offer assistance to vulnerable community members."
