Network services – Acceptable conductors and conduit size

Size of Conductor (Wire Sizes) Description Rating Per Phase (Amps) Conduit Size
#2 AWG Cu. For 2-phase, 3-wire, or 3-phase, 4-wire Cross-link polyethylene insulated with polyvinylchloride jacket on conductor 100 A 100 mm (4 in.)
# 4/0 AWG Cu. Cross-link polyethylene insulated with polyvinylchloride jacket on conductor 200 A 100 mm (4 in.)
7-conductor network cable consisting of two # 4/0 AWG Cu. per phase and one 500 MCM Cu. XLPE (USEI go cable) neutral Cross-link polyethylene insulated with polyvinylchloride jacket on conductor 400 A or multiples of 400 A 100 mm (4 in.)

AWG = American wire gauge
Cu. = Copper
MCM = thousand circular mils

  • For network services 400 A and larger, EDTI will supply cable with parallel runs of network service cable. (One 7/C run is 400 A, two 7/C runs is 800 A, three 7/C runs is 1,200 A, and four 7/C runs is 1,600 A.)
  • Depending on duct arrangements, pull boxes may be required in the building. For further information, see the Pull Boxes in Buildings section (6.17).
  • The maximum length of service conductor permitted in a building is 3.0 m, unless they are mechanically protected in rigid metal conduit, in which case the maximum is 7.5 m.
