As the City of Edmonton's long-standing maintainer of the LRT traction power and signal system, we continue to offer dependable service to the City's growing system, while augmenting our expertise to the benefit of our client.
With the building of the City's first LRT line in the 1970's, Edmonton Transit Service knew it required a capable, dependable service provider to ensure the critical electrification system remained in top working condition. The City's ambitious goals to have the LRT grow across the City over time called for a sustainable partnership that would offer the assurance of timely response, quality workmanship, safety, local resourcing and continuous improvement.
EPCOR has been a pillar of the City of Edmonton's LRT operations and maintenance efforts since the system was first brought on line. Operating under a performance-based contract, EPCOR Technologies is responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of the traction power components in accordance with an annual maintenance plan. Edmonton Transit also relies on Technologies to provide 24/7 on-call emergency response providing switching services, power cuts and implementing the capital asset replacement program. To date this includes 14 LRT DC substations, as well as the overhead catenary system and block detection signal system components associated with Edmonton's 20.5 kilometers of track.
Technologies' has evolved in structure to meet the City of Edmonton's needs, stationing crews and equipment at Edmonton Transit LRT yards for more timely and efficient response. Our commitment to being a complete solution provider has seen us establish an integrated, devoted group of management, engineers, procurement and field staff who work hand-in-hand to simplifying the entire program delivery for our client.
In order to ensure only qualified personnel perform work on the City's LRT system, EPCOR Technologies has introduced a Passport Qualification System to track training and qualify personnel for work on various system components. Cross-training of our staff allows for more efficient diagnosis and repair of system components. Our engineers and technicians work together in analyzing maintenance records to trend excessive wear and adjust activities, while staying current with technological advancement to support the integration of new elements such as Communications Based Train Control (CBTC).
