Impacts from dry pond construction

The construction of the dry pond in Ermineskin Park has been completed, including installation of the replacement trees. Fencing will remain around the dry pond/sports fields until approximately Fall 2021 (one year upon completion of the landscaping).

Residents can expect to see on-going maintenance within the fenced areas, including installation of soccer goal posts, picnic tables and waste bins.

During the winter/early spring, the supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) will be installed in the dry pond. SCADA is a computer system for gathering and analyzing real time data, which includes warning devices in the pond's drainage grates that notify EPCOR when it is filling with water. EPCOR staff can be dispatched as necessary to ensure the site is safe.

Please note, these are still active worksites and are restricted areas. While we understand it is tempting to utilize these spaces, especially given the situation we are in with COVID-19, residents are asked not to remove the fencing or access the fenced area for their own safety and to prevent damage to the landscaping.

Any damage to the landscaping may impact the City of Edmonton's approval and significantly delay the opening of the space. Additional security measures will be put in place should residents enter the fenced worksites.

The Steinhauer dry pond construction is still pending approval of the land acquisition from the Edmonton Public School Board (ESPB). Both EPCOR and ESPB are working to finalize the details surrounding the agreement.

Once construction begins, the dry pond area will likely be inaccessible for approximately 18 months, including construction, sod placement and growth. More information will be provided once we receive approval.

Impacts from sewer upgrade work

The various sewer upgrades throughout Steinhauer and Ermineskin have been completed. All of the associated concrete work and paving restoration have been completed and all locations are open to traffic.

The construction of the dry pond next to Steinhauer School is dependent on the approval of the land acquisition. This process is still underway with the Edmonton Public School Board.

Once construction begins, there will also be three locations that will require sewer upgrades in order to connect the Steinhauer School dry pond to the drainage system. The locations are:

Location A: On 32A Avenue from 108 Street to 107A Street

Location B: On 106 Street, north of 31 Avenue

Location C: On 31 Avenue east of 107 Street
