The sanitary sewer system in the Kameyosek neighborhood is being upgraded. This project is part of ongoing flood mitigation improvements to reduce the risk of flooding in northeast Kameyosek. New infrastructure will be installed to provide extra sewer conveyance capacity.

Project overview

PSA Construction Inc. will begin to install a new sanitary sewer line starting in western part of Kameyosek park and terminating at the walkway to the northeast of the park. This new sewer line will significantly reduce the basement flooding risk to the neighbourhood upon completion.

Kameyosek park towards Lakewood Road E NW

  • Construction within the park will most likely be open cut (or trenched).

  • A new 450-mm diameter pipe will connect to an existing sanitary sewer line underneath the park at the depth of 11m. There will be open excavation at this location.

  • If open cut, the entire excavated area will be fenced off. This may impact any north-south foot traffic.

  • A pit will be constructed across the street from the walkway for trenchless construction.

  • The laydown area for equipment and materials will be on the northeast portion of the park.

  • A 50-meter section of Lakewood Road (25 meters on either side of the pipe alignment) may be marked as 'No Parking'.

  • All construction equipment and activities will stay within the construction boundary area.

Walkway between 71 Street and 31 Ave (northeast of the park)

  • A second laydown area for equipment and materials will be to the east of walkway.

  • There will be an open excavation to expose the upstream connection point at a depth of 6m.

  • A pit will be excavated at east end of the walkway to lower the hydraulic trenchless equipment.

  • The walkway area will be closed off during construction. No temporary walkway will be provided.

  • Residents may experience dust and general noise as a number of construction equipment and trucks will be used for material delivery, excavation, soil removal and surface restoration.

  • The equipment may cause some minor vibration. Information sheets and access request forms have been sent to the residents along the construction path.

  • Construction method will be trenchless.

  • All construction equipment and activities will remain within the construction boundary area.
