Project Overview

The Garneau Substation (11123 – 85 Avenue) requires an antenna to facilitate faster communication and response times. An antenna is used for radio communication.

The proposed antenna will be 15 feet tall and will be placed on top of the existing substation building, which is 25 feet tall. This means the structure will be a total of 40 feet above ground. The proposed new antenna structure will be grey in colour, made from metal and concrete materials. This antenna will connect to a new EPCOR distribution pole that will replace an existing EPCOR distribution pole, located in the back alley.

Proposed Schedule

We plan to apply to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for approval of the new antenna in summer 2021. If approved by the AUC, this work is planned to begin in late 2021/early 2022 and will take approximately one week to complete.

Consultation Process

While COVID-19 means we are unable to connect in person, we are pleased to connect with you through phone and email. Over the next few weeks, we will contact stakeholders directly adjacent to the project for the opportunity to provide input.

Community input and involvement is an important part of our decision-making. If you have any questions or would like to provide input on the project, please contact us by June 18, 2021:
