Sunridge Drive Water Main Replacement Expected for Fountain Hills in 2019

As part of our ongoing effort to invest in Fountain Hills' water system infrastructure, we will replace more than a mile of water main under Sunridge Drive.

The estimated $2.7 million project is expected to be included as part of our 2019 capital program.

Assessing the health of the underground infrastructure is a routine part of our work in the community. Engineers discovered that the water main under Sunridge Drive was not installed correctly, making it susceptible to failure.

In the past, breaks along Sunridge Drive resulted in costly, disruptive and time-consuming emergency repairs. Replacing the 1-mile section of 12-inch water main ultimately saves time and money.

Project background

The 1-mile stretch of Sunridge Drive has been the site of leaks in the past. Through 2017, those leaks cost an estimated $750,000 to repair. After further evaluation of the water main, engineers discovered that a nearly 1-mile section was installed inadequately.

Project basics

This project will remove and replace 5,500 feet of 12-inch water main along Sunridge Drive from Palisades Boulevard to Desert Canyon Drive.

While we realize this construction may result in a temporary inconvenience, we must replace the line to ensure the best, and most reliable, water supply for your community and to avoid repeated breaks and emergency repairs in the future.

We will coordinate with the Town of Fountain Hills to minimize any impact to residents. Our crews will work during typical construction hours and are focused on mitigating any impact to the community as they complete this important project. Before we begin work in each area, residents will be notified.
