Impacts at 148 Street and Summit Drive

At the first work location (green area on map), we'll first construct a shaft, a tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be lowered into the shaft, and then move into the tunneling phase.

During this work, you'll encounter:

  • A closed sidewalk on the north side of Summit Drive with detoured pedestrian traffic (orange line on map)
  • Westbound lane closure on Summit Drive (red line on map)
  • Regular construction activities from Monday to Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Work taking place 24 hours a day during the tunneling period
    • The tunneling period is estimated to start 3 months after the start of the shaft construction
    • There are 3 phases to the 24 hours a day tunneling. Here are the estimated timelines:
      • Spring to Fall 2020 – 147 days
      • Winter to Spring 2021 – 66 days
      • Spring to Summer 2021 – 41 days
  • Heavy traffic along the haul route; tandem trucks and equipment will be coming down the haul route 5-7 times a day

Haul route

The haul route for this work location is as follows:

  • Trucks will enter the worksite on Summit Drive from 149 Street.
  • Trucks will exit the work area at 148 Street and continue south and exit to 149 Street via 100 Avenue.

Additional storm sewer project: MacKinnon Drive

In addition to the 99 Avenue Sanitary Trunk Rehabilitation Project, work will begin on Summit Drive in May 2020 for an adjacent storm sewer project. The haul route and site layout will be coordinated between the 2 projects.
