In advance of the City of Edmonton's work to widen 50 Street, a portion of the existing 72 kV transmission line along 50 Street needs to be relocated. If approved, a section of the transmission line along 50 Street will be relocated further east, from 90 Avenue to the Sherwood Park Freeway. The majority of the new transmission poles will be made of composite fiberglass; however, steel poles will be used in places where the line bends or needs to span long distances. Once the line is relocated, the section of transmission line shown on the map as a red dashed line will be removed.
The map below shows the proposed new alignment for the 72 kV transmission line and three options for crossing 50 Street. Only one crossing point option will be selected.
Other EPCOR utilities will also need to be relocated to accommodate the City of Edmonton's 50 Street Widening and CP Railway Grade Separation Project. Those near the relocation activities will be provided with additional information prior to construction.
