Travelers value 511 Alberta for information on highway conditions, roadwork, major incidents, weather alerts, and wait times at border crossings. The backbone of this system is the network of Road Weather Information System (RWIS) stations, which allows information to be collected through sensors and cameras at stations along Alberta’s highway network. EPCOR Technologies was responsible for the site design and installation of the RWIS towers, underground civil works, road & tower sensors, field testing, configuration and commissioning of 21 sites across Alberta. As a growing municipality with increased traffic volumes and a complex roadway system, Spruce Grove required a solution to allow emergency vehicles to flow unimpeded through the City’s major intersections - with the intent to shorten emergency response times. EPCOR Technologies was contracted to install control units and radio/ GPS antennas at 22 intersections throughout the City that would communicate with emergency vehicles. Our team also developed customized cabinet wiring solutions and utilized existing conduit for specialized cable installations in order to seamlessly integrate with pre-existing infrastructure.
