In June 2024, Harmony Advanced Water Systems Corp. (HAWSCo) and EPCOR announced that EPCOR will become the new water and wastewater utility for Harmony, a master-planned residential community just 28 kilometers (17 miles) west of downtown Calgary in southern Alberta. Harmony brings outdoor recreation, accessible retail, public spaces, and quality homes together to create a singular community experience.
We have nearly 130 years of history and experience in Alberta, including exceptional water operations in the southern areas of our province. We’re excited to welcome the Harmony community to EPCOR.
The transfer of ownership is subject to Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approval and was filed June 10, 2024. The AUC approved the transfer of ownership on August 13, 2024.

Transfer of Ownership
When does EPCOR become Harmony’s water and wastewater provider?
Not until later this fall – the request to transfer ownership of the utility systems to EPCOR must first be reviewed and approved by the AUC. You can review the application here.
What is the status of the AUC application?
The transfer of ownership is subject to Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approval and was filed June 10, 2024. The AUC approved the transfer of ownership on August 13, 2024.
We want this transition to be as seamless as possible for customers. You’ll receive information throughout the process and can attend a community open house on August 20 to meet EPCOR and learn more.
Who owns the lake?
Once ownership is transferred, EPCOR will own the lake because it is a reservoir that is an important part of the Harmony water system.
Will the Owners Association of Harmony still have access to the lake?
Yes, this is a community amenity that also serves as a water reservoir. It will continue to be accessible as it is today.
Why is EPCOR buying the Harmony water and wastewater systems?
EPCOR’s core focus is on utility service and it will bring deep experience in sustainable and high-quality water and wastewater service to Harmony residents. Harmony Developments Inc. will remain focused on continuing to develop Harmony as an amenity-rich master-planned community.
Billing and Customer Service
Who do I pay my bill to?
You don’t have to change anything today – your bill will continue to come from HAWSCo. Once ownership fully transfers to EPCOR service and bills will come from EPCOR. Customers will receive information in advance of that any steps that might need to be taken.
Can I still pay my bill the same way?
Yes. Pay your bill as you normally do to HAWSCo.
Once ownership transfers to EPCOR later this fall customers will receive information on how to update their online banking and bill pay settings.
Our goal is to make this transition as seamless as possible, and you’ll be receiving more information in the mail before you receive your first EPCOR bill.
Who should I contact to discuss my water or wastewater service or bill?

Will my rates change? Will this change my monthly bill?
Rates for Harmony are regulated by the AUC and will be the same rates that go into effect once the 2024-2025 rates are approved by the AUC.
Will my billing and payment information automatically transfer to EPCOR?
We’ll have more details for customers later this fall on any steps they may need to take.
Service and Operations
Can I request water service connection/disconnection through EPCOR?
No. Until the AUC approves the transfer of ownership and Harmony and EPCOR complete the transaction, you must continue to manage your service through HAWSCo.
Is my service changing? Will this disrupt my service?
Your service isn’t changing, just who is providing it.
Will the quality of my water change?
At EPCOR, the quality, safety and reliability of the water we provide is our top priority and it is our goal to meet or exceed all federal and provincial water quality standards. We bring that same commitment to the Harmony community.
