The holiday season is upon us and thoughts are turning to giving and giving back. But at EPCOR, giving back isn't seasonal – it matters every day of the year. This year, our employees donated from their checkbooks, gave their own time to charities and other initiatives, and found creative ways to give back.
During our 2015 United Way campaign, employees joined together to raise more than $33,000. Those funds will help groups such as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, after-school and literacy programs offered by organizations like the Dysart Community Center and the Arizona Literacy and Learning Center, Girl Scout programs in the Phoenix, Clovis and Bullhead City areas, and adult care and rehabilitation programs offered by Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services (STARS).
We're also helping to make a difference in the daily lives of those who need help putting food on the table, supporting community pantries in Bullhead City, Clovis and Edgewood and home-delivery meal program provided to the Sun Cities by Benevilla. Thousands of residents in Arizona and New Mexico will benefit from these contributions.
Our employees are also doing more through the company's Helping Hands Grant program. By putting in a minimum of 25 hours of their own time to volunteer for an organization they're particularly passionate about, our employees can direct an extra $250 to qualifying charitable organizations. This year, our employees gave a helping hand with more than 350 hours of volunteering, supporting organizations and causes like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the non-profit behind Phoenix's Tovrea Castle, Great Dane fostering, the 100 Club of Arizona and the Fountain Hills Charter School.
Beyond Helping Hands, EPCOR has provided support to more than 100 events and programs in the communities we serve, from supporting food banks in Fountain Hills, Bullhead City, Clovis and Edgewood to important community-focused events in Anthem, Verrado, Surprise and Youngtown. We've also supported education in meaningful ways, like offsetting the cost of summer school for high-school students who need a little help and partnering with local fire departments and community pools to provide families with water-safety tips and information.
The Season of Giving Back
To put a bow on another year of giving back, we're helping to stock the shelves of local food pantries so families can celebrate the holidays without going hungry. Employees who serve many of our Phoenix-area communities teamed up to donate dozens of frozen turkeys to local food banks, helping families in need this holiday season.
