On August 14, the City of Calgary will be conducting leak detection testing on the East Calgary Regional Water Line, which will shut down the line for up to 10 hours. On August 21, the City will then conduct an inspection of its testing, leading to another shut down for up to 10 hours.
Strathmore receives its water supply through this water line so, on August 14 and 21, no additional water will be distributed to the Town of Strathmore.
EPCOR is asking the public to eliminate non-essential water use, such as:
- Watering of lawns, gardens, trees or shrubs
- Washing cars or driveways
- Doing laundry
- Filling a jacuzzi, hot tub or swimming pool
Also, we are encouraging residents to practice wise water use. For example, take short showers instead of baths and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving. Every drop helps.
EPCOR stores drinking water in a reservoir in Strathmore, which is enough for three days of typical summer water use as well as to ensure fire protection; however, we are asking residents to conserve water to ensure an adequate water supply while testing and inspection are conducted.
There will still be water at the taps for residents to use on August 14 and 21, and the water remains safe to drink. EPCOR continues to apply all of its technology and resources to ensure water quality in Strathmore.
