EPCOR Community Advisory Task Group (E-CATG)

EPCOR's relationship with its neighbours is an important focus of its Genesee operations. To help us better understand the interests and priorities of our neighbors in the Genesee area, we expanded our outreach efforts to include a new advisory group.  The EPCOR Community Advisory Task Group (E-CATG) was formed to represent residents living within a 25 kilometre radius of the Genesee Generating Station. The E-CATG is facilitated by Decision Partners, an independent company. After each E-CATG meeting, summaries are distributed to the community and are available on our website.

Overview of a Community Advisory Task Group

The purpose of a CATG is to bring together small groups of people, representing a variety of viewpoints within a community, typically to work on a specific task. Since membership in a CATG is diverse, the process enables more community members to participate in the consultation experience.  In general, CATG participants are asked to provide advice and suggestions on a variety of topics related to the task.

The Genesee E-CATG was established to provide EPCOR with advice on future operations at Genesee and to provide input on the following topics, which were identified as important during outreach and dialogue activities:

    1. Improving EPCOR Genesee Operations' and Sherritt Coal's dialogue, outreach, community involvement and responsiveness on a range of operational and community initiatives.
    2. Discussing challenges, progress and how to improve communications on key environmental, health and safety topics.

Selection of E-CATG Members

E-CATG members are selected by Decision Partners, an independent company that has been working with EPCOR on community consultation for several years. The selection process involved dividing applicants according to community, distance from the Genesee Station, age categories, gender, background and interests.  Ultimately, 12 people who live near the Genesee Station - within about a 25-km radius - and represent a spread of interests, age groups, and backgrounds are selected. The following people currently comprise the E-CATG:

  • Gene Begg
  • MaryAnn Cygan
  • Sherry Horvath
  • Sharon Lawrence
  • Audrey Lowrie
  • Gordon Metke
  • Anni Nicoll
  • Christine Pankewitz
  • Phyllis Schnick
  • Frank Wipf
  • Carmen McMann
  • Curtis Meyers
