EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc.


EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. (EDTI) owns and operates substations and transmission lines which form part of the Alberta interconnected electric system, and are situated primarily within the City of Edmonton. It is regulated by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC).

EDTI and EPCOR Energy Alberta Inc. perform regulated electricity services subject to the provisions of the Code of Conduct Regulation (A.R. 160/2003, the "Conduct Regulation").  The Conduct Regulation is intended to create a level playing field for retailers, while at the same time ensuring that customers and customer information are adequately protected. 

Any person that feels that an EPCOR company has failed to conduct its business in accordance with the Conduct Regulation may submit a complaint to the MSA, an independent body created under the Alberta Electric Utilities Act. EDTI is responsible for administration of the Distribution Tariff as required by the Alberta Electric Utilities Act. The Tariff defines the terms, conditions and rate structure under which EPCOR provides electrical services. The terms include charges for system access service, distribution access service billing and electrical energy.

Other services in support of the Alberta competitive electricity market provide:

  • Load settlement services.
  • Retailer handbook.
  • Site Directory for Edmonton and Town of Ponoka.
  • Edmonton meter reading schedule files for retailers.
  • Distributed generation information.

As the Wires Owner (WO), EDTI also:

  • provides the distribution tariff and settlement services in Edmonton and Ponoka for the competitive electric market, and
  • manages and collects load data in the Edmonton area through meter reading, data collection and management.
  • EDTI operates 193 circuit kilometres of transmission lines.
  • Forms nine percent (12%) of the Alberta Provincial Power Grid's revenue requirement.
  • Provides services to the Transmission Administrator, who manages the provincial power grid.
