Going green with EPCOR
In May 2006 the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association’s (AHLA’s) purchase of renewable power through EPCOR’s EnVest program offered environmental benefits equal to those from planting two million trees at 329 member-run properties.
Participating AHLA members agreed to purchase 10% of their electricity requirements for the next five years through EnVest, EPCOR’s environmental stewardship program. This purchase of renewable energy made the AHLA the only hospitality industry association in Canada that has made an environmental commitment of this magnitude.
The AHLA's EnVest purchase equals a reduction of about 20,700 tonnes of CO2 each year, the equivalent of removing 4,140 cars from the road or planting 2,070,000 trees.
“This commitment to renewable energy is an investment in our customers, our members, their employees, and the community.”
“Guests who stay in our hotels come from across Canada and around the world,” says President & CEO David Kaiser. “This commitment to renewable energy is an investment in our customers, our members, their employees, and the community.”
“We’re in the business of comfort,” summarized Kaiser, “so peace of mind is important to us. We know visitors to Alberta expect to enjoy our province’s natural beauty. Our members’ investment in the environment through this contract demonstrates their commitment to providing clean and comfortable accommodation in a way that reduces our impact on our surroundings.” |
